Safe battery disconnection

Construction, agricultural and special machinery: Even under harsh conditions, battery isolation systems must be reliable. E-T-A has developed the MPR20 power relay specifically for this type of application.

Power relays for mobile machinery

Mobile machinery often operates in demanding conditions. Dirt, moisture, severe vibrations and temperature fluctuations are part of everyday life. However, reliable battery disconnection from the vehicle’s electrical system must be ensured at any time, for example for maintenance work or for safety reasons.

One of Germany’s leading manufacturers of forestry and agricultural machinery relies on E-T-A products. In itsself-propelled wood chipper, the MPR20 power relay is used as a battery isolator, operating reliably even under demanding conditions.

The MPR20 switches and carries currents of up to 300 A. It handles the high current peaks from the starter motor, the charging currents from the alternator and the continuous loads from the electrical loads. This makes it suitable for high-performance machinery and vehicles with demanding requirements in terms of electrical power supply.

The monostable design offers an additional safety benefit. If the supply voltage fails, the relay automatically returns to its initial state. At the same time, the integrated control electronics reduce holding power by up to 90 % compared to conventional power relays. This reduces energy consumption and allows for direct connection to the control unit, thereby minimising the amount of wiring required.

Thanks to the robust, water- and dust-tight IP6k9k housing, it can be used even in harsh environments. Its high resistance to vibrations and mechanical stress means it can be fitted directly onto the machine, for example on the outside of a wood chipper’s chassis. Standardised mounting dimensions and an HDSCS plug-in connection facilitate installation and replacement of existing relay solutions.

The MPR20 power relay is versatile and robust. It is not only available for 12 V and 24 V systems, but for load circuits of up to 48 V, breaking new grounds for applications in mobile machinery.
