Mikko Laakkonen, from HPE, is a Senior System Architect working in a Nokia account team and is responsible for designing the rack configurations for customer usage. He is also responsible for appropriate power and protection solutions in the HPE racks.

What do you see as a trend in powering the DC systems in racks for the future?

Mikko Laakkonen: It seems that there is an increase in the energy required. The power distribution systems (PDUs) must be prepared for that. Additionally, rack units are expensive for the end customer. Saving space in the rack for only active systems is beneficial.

Therefore, the DC power distribution and protection are moving to the rear side of the cabinet, similar to AC power strips. Additionally, current measurement of each output channel of the PDU is becoming essential.

What can E-T-A provide for your cabinets?

Mikko Laakkonen: E-T-A provides us with power distribution and protection solutions for our racks. This includes power distribution units, circuit breakers, grounding bars, and output cable sets.

The PDUs are designed with us to be used on the rear side of the cabinet, so-called 0U PDUs, which gives us an advantage of filling the racks with our own systems. We work closely with E-T-A to develop power solutions that precisely meet our needs.
